with icy conditions on the roads this winter.
Cabinet Members are recommended to approve the updated Winter Maintenance
Policy (2015-18) at its meeting on 13 October.
For the coming winter, the authority has a total of 9,000 tonnes of salt stored
at two sites (Alltami and Greenfield), which will be replenished as it is used.
The Council鈥檚 team of gritters will be on standby from November until the end
of March ready to take to the county鈥檚 roads. The drivers are all fully trained
in winter maintenance.
The team covers 12 priority 1 routes across the county, gritting 45% of

In addition, the council also has 38 agricultural contractors who can be called
in to help clear snow. Each has a dedicated route to enable the entire adopted
road network in the county to be cleared.
The council鈥檚 Streetscene Team will also treat footpaths on a priority basis in
areas including hospitals, residential homes, schools, bus stops and shopping
areas during prolonged freezing conditions and snow.
Salt bins/heaps will be filled at the start of the winter season and again in
January if required.
